Across Boundaries is participating in Canadian Patient Safety Week (CPSW). We are thrilled to be involved in this national campaign hosted annually by Healthcare Excellence Canada. This year, CPSW is scheduled to take place between October 23rd to 27th, 2023, and we are gearing up for it!
The primary goal of our participation in this campaign is to enhance safety for our service users and elevate the overall quality of care. Under the CPSW 2023 theme, ‘SMALL CHANGES. BIG IMPACT. SAFER CARE’, we are joining Healthcare Excellence Canada to champion a new approach to patient safety that is grounded in exploring, learning, and acting to create safer care as well as reduce all forms of harm—including those caused by culturally unsafe care.
As part of the campaign, we will recognize our staff’s unwavering dedication to patient safety by presenting the most deserving candidate with the Patient Safety Champions award, prizes, and merchandise. The process for nominating candidates for the award will involve submissions from their peers, based on a set of criteria which includes but is not limited to:
- Constantly driving service user satisfaction.
- Upholding, promoting, and maintaining service user confidentiality.
- Adequately deescalating situations.
- Identifying service users correctly.
- Constantly improving effective communication among colleagues.
- Promoting & modelling good hand hygiene within the facility.
In addition to the award, as Canadian Patient Safety Week unfolds, we will encourage our staff to cultivate their sense of curiosity, champion open dialogues, and motivate everyone to pose questions freely. This collaborative effort will contribute to a culture of continuous learning and improvement, reinforcing our commitment to safety for our service users.
