This week is the painful anniversary of the tragic death of three generations of a Muslim Canadian family in London, Ontario.
On June 6, 2021, in what authorities described as a targeted anti-Islamic hate crime; a man driving a pickup truck purposely jumped a curb and slammed into five members of the Afzaal family who were out for a walk. Salman Afzaal, 46, his wife Madiha Salman, 44, their 15-year-old daughter Yumna Afzaal and Salman’s 74-year-old mother Talat Afzaal were killed. The couple’s nine-year-old son sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and survived the attack.

These terrible events are upsetting and serve as a reminder that bigotry and hate still exist in this country. Across Boundaries believes we must start to dismantle racist structures and begin the healing process.
